If you’re currently using Drive File Stream, make sure you upgrade to the latest version (now named Google Drive for desktop) by Oct. Click Open Drive for desktop at the end of the wizard to get started.If applicable, after Google Drive for desktop is set up, Backup and Sync will be uninstalled.The wizard will copy your settings and guide you through setup.Once the application is installed, launch it, and log-in to your Google account by entering the right credentials.

At first, you can just go to the official website of Google Backup and Sync and install the application on your PC or Mac. If the account you are signing in with is also signed into Backup and Sync on your computer, a setup wizard will launch. Step 1: Install Backup and Sync and set up your account.Also make sure you have Cardinal Key installed and enabled for each of your web browsers.) (Note: If you’re unable to authenticate due to Cardinal Key enforcement, verify your devices appear in MyDevices and they show as compliant. You can access files through a mounted drive on your computer. Update (July 12th, 2017): Backup and Sync is now available to users in domains on the Rapid and Scheduled Release tracks.


All files, including those available offline, can be accessed only when the app is running. Files that are not available offline can only be accessed when you’re connected to the internet. Hard drive space is only used when you open files or make them available offline. With streaming, your files are stored in the cloud. You can access files through a folder on your computer. You can access your files at any time, even when you don’t have an internet connection or the Drive for desktop app running. With mirroring, your files are stored in the cloud and on your computer, which takes up hard drive space. In both cases, any changes you make to your files on one device will be reflected everywhere. Mirroring and streaming are two ways to sync your files.
